Tone in photography is different than tone in other subjects. English, tone is voice. In math, it means something else that I forgot. In photography, it is the amount of light and dark in a picture. Black and white pictures are dependent on tone, but pictures do not have to be black and white to have tone. More contrast equals more tone. I tend to put quite a lot on my pictures that it is noticeable, this is to make the picture seems juicy.
I increased the tone here with the dark and light areas. The light lines were made darker and added contrast. While the darker areas of the picture were made even darker, leaving only certain spots bright enough for you to see.
You can tell there is tone here by the colors. I improved it and now it shows the color of the floor which is red. And the light on the pool is green. In the original, this picture looked bland and like it was just a picture of the outside. But now you can see the color of the floor, the pool, and the railing where I was standing on. Tone here improved the colors of this image.
